Description
Baked camembert is a fool-proof appetiser that will have everyone crowding around the table for more! And the best part is that it can be prepped ahead of time.
Ingredients
Units
- 3–4 pears
- 20g butter (heaped tablespoon)
- 1 tablespoon (20g) muscovado sugar
- Pinch of salt
- Splash (1 tablespoon) water
- 250g camembert in a bamboo box
- 20g raw walnuts or pecans
- 3 sprigs of thyme
- 1 baguette, sliced and toasted, or crackers to serve
Instructions
- Peel and core the pears.
- In a metal roasting tray that fits your air fryer, place the pears cut side down. Dot the butter, muscovado sugar, and salt over the pears, then add 2 tablespoons of water to the pan.
- In the air fryer: Air fry on the roast setting at 185°C (365°F) for 20 minutes, basting as you go to glaze the pears. Turn the pears after 10 minutes, and baste well with the buttery glaze. Add a splash of water if the glaze starts to catch and burn in the tray.
In the oven
Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
Roast in the oven for 20-30 minutes, glazing/basting as needed. Turn the pears halfway through cooking. - While the pears cook, prep the camembert. Cut slits into the camembert. Sprinkle the picked thyme and walnuts over the cheese.
- Remove the pears from the air fryer or oven and set them aside.
- Add 1 teaspoon of water to the pear roasting tin and stir with a spatula to release the caramelized, sugary pan sauce.
- Pour the sauce over the camembert, making sure it gets into the slits and covers the nuts.
- Air fry or oven-bake the camembert
Air Fryer: Air fry the camembert for 5-10 minutes at 180°C (355°F) until it becomes gooey and molten.
Oven: Increase the oven temp to 200°C. Place the camembert in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until it reaches a gooey, molten consistency. - Remove from the oven, place onto a plate and nestle the pears onto the cheese and around the plate.
- Accompany with sliced and toasted baguette or crackers.
