Description
This viral TikTok phyllo crinkle cake has its roots in Middle Eastern desserts; however, this muakacha is something you’re unlikely to have had before! Featuring crispy phyllo and a custard filling, it’s a sure winner for your Easter or Ramadan table.

- 1 package phyllo dough, defrosted
- 220g of butter melted
- 350ml milk
- 2 large eggs
- 300g sugar (200g for syrup, 100g for custard)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup water
- 200g candy-coated mini eggs
Instructions
- Heat the oven to 175C and line a 13×9 inch/ 30x20cm baking sheet with parchment paper. Grab 2 sheets of phyllo dough by the corners and scrunch in approx 3cm intervals. Click here to see the assembly in action.
- Place the crinkled dough, folds facing upwards, into the baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
- Trickle melted butter evenly on top and bake for a further 10 minutes.
- During this time, make the custard by combining ½ cup sugar, 1 cup milk, 2 eggs and 2 tsp vanilla.
- Remove the crinkle from the oven, pour the custard evenly over the folds and bake once more for 30-40 minutes until crispy and golden.
- Finally, combine ½ cup water and 1 cup of sugar to create a simple syrup. Reduce until the syrup reaches a tacky consistency. Once the crinkle is ready, drizzle over the syrup, leave to cool and then enjoy!
