Description
Whip up this quick and easy, delectable breakfast that is simply *chefs kiss*… A classic breakfast with a sweet twist, this Panettone Brulée French Toast is the best thing since sliced bread.
Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 60ml milk or cream
- 1/4 tsp mixed spice
- 1 shot rum (optional)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla paste or essence
- Pinch of salt
- 6 thick slices panettone
- Castor sugar for the brulée
- 2 tbsp butter
- Cream for serving
Instructions
- Whisk the eggs, milk, mixed spice, rum, vanilla and salt together.
- Dip the panettone gently into the mix, being sure not to oversaturate it, and then set aside.
- Heat a nonstick frying pan over medium heat then add the butter.
- Once the butter foams and melts, slide in the egg soaked panettone.
- Cook the french toast on each side until golden brown.
- Remove the french toast from the pan.
- Sprinkle an even 1mm layer of castor sugar over the top of each slice of french toast.
- Use a blow torch to melt the sugar into a golden crackly caramel.
- Alternatively, set the oven to grill on the highest setting, then grill the french toast until the sugar has bruléed- keep a close eye on them to prevent them from burning.
- Allow to cool then serve with whipped cream.
